Subject: Compiling php-Yaz on Fedora Core 4 64Bit

Hi,

I'm trying to get php-yaz to compile on fedora core 4 64bit
but it keeps
failing on.

/usr/bin/ld: /usr/local/lib/libyaz.a(options.o): relocation
R_X86_64_32S
against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a
shared object;
recompile with -fPIC

/usr/local/lib/libyaz.a(options.o): could not read symbols:
Bad value

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

make: *** [yaz.la] Error 1

I am using yaz-2.1.14 libraries and pear yaz-1.0.6

I'm guessing that I need to get the yaz libraries to
compile as 64Bit
but I'm not sure how, shouldn't it do this by default on a
64Bit
compiler?
