up2date vs iso updates

Hi,
I'm new to Red Hat.
I maintain a server with RHEL-4.
I'm a bit confused on the RHEL4 ISOs which can be downloaded from RHN.
The server came installed with RHEL-4 (base).
After installing addtional packages, I ran up2date (over night) to install updates for all packages.
Q: does that mean I'm now up to (or even above) the level of RHEL-4 update 4?

Kind regards / met vriendelijke groet,

Wim de Haan

The ISOs are not kept up to date with the latest updates.
That is the reason for running "up2date".
However, the kernel updates are not downloaded by default.
If you run "up2date -u" you will see at the end of
the operation that some updates "usually only
kernel" are excluded and you would need to run to use
the -f (force) option to up2date to get them. Then you
would need to reboot the machine to apply them.

Hi Wim,

There's a couple of ISOs you can download from RHN. There's the ones you can install from and the ones that you can't (which can only be used to import to a Satellite server).

For your second question, you can see what release you're running by using:

# cat /etc/redhat-release

Regards,

Michael.
