I used to be a member of the Mac user group here in Seattle.
Every
Saturday morning, they hold a "Cafe" where users
can get together for
coffee and doughnuts, talk about Macs and people can bring
in their
machines and someone would help them install some software
or debug a
problem. I stopped going to these meetings because I myself
never had
time to socialize, people would want this or that installed.
One
time, a women who was being helped by another member
castigated
someone who dared ask a question of this guy while he was
waiting for
her hour-long software install to complete. "He's
helping me!", she
snapped.
You have to remember that people on this group (or any other
group
for that matter) are here because they choose to be, not
because they
are paid or are forced to. There may be reasons that people
do not
answer your question, they may be offline for a period of
time, you
posted your question on a Friday, and here it is Monday,
quite a few
people have lives on the weekend away from the internet.
Maybe noone
is sure of an answer or they just simply decide not to help
for
whatever reason. Pleading, or multiple posts for help don't
engender
sympathetic attitudes. Like an animal stuck in a tarpit,
people may
be inclined to just walk on by.
You mention that some people have alluded to having an
answer, in
that case, perhaps an email to that person would be in
order.
