Thread: indexterm syntax

indexterm syntax

I'm currently using
<indexterm xml:id="svrl">
   <primary>svrl </primary>
</indexterm>

in a book.

The generated index (html output) links back to the chapter
start, rather than to the indexterm.

Using v5 and the provisional stylesheets.
Is this not ready yet please?

Note that there is nothing in TDG to indicate
where the target of a link will be?

Hi Dave,
Actually, the index terms link back to the top of the
section or chapter
containing the entry, and that was by Norm's design. Since
there are no
page numbers in HTML, the section title is displayed as the
link.  The link
goes to the top of the section to permit multiple identical
indexterms in
the same section to collapse to a single entry. That's done
to avoid having
to repeat the section title.

However, that behavior should probably be selectable by a
parameter.
Submit a feature request if you like.

For fo it is reasonable to have the page number,
for (x)html, I think the id (#REQUIRED) of the indexterm
is reasonable for html?

I will submit a feature request ... via the docbook list
or ? where please?
