There isn't a processing instruction to make the indent 
proportional, but there is one to set the width manually for
each 
list.   Use the dbfo label-width processing instruction as 
described at the end of this section:

You could file a feature request on the DocBook SourceForge
site 
to have the stylesheet adjust the width automatically.
