There are several options. The easiest to deploy is probably
one from

http://sourcef
orge.net/projects/xslthl

In the future, please ask tool specific questions on
docbook-apps
mailing list.

It seems not so easy to me. Can someone point me to some
documentation
or reference? I've looked at the examples in the package
but didn't find
nothing useful (for me).

Thanks

Now I see. It seems that package contains only core of
higlighter, not
DocBook stylesheet customizations. I asked author to add
them (they are
already done, I didn't know that they are not published),
so stay tuned.

You can download self-contained demo from

http://sourceforge.net/project
/showfiles.php?group_id=153524&package_id=185329

there are two batch files that can be invoked to process
DocBook to HTML
and PDF. During processing Java sources are higlighted. You
will find
sample stylesheets customizations showing integration with
DocBook
stylesheets.
