Thanks. I discovered glossify shortly after posting the
question (of 
course) but haven't had time to try it yet. In the meantime,
it was 
pretty straightforward to translate the DocBook glossary
elements into 
the LaTeX analogs and write a little extractor to create the
glossary 
database.
