I remain unclear regarding DocBook 5 Relax NG, XSD and DTD development
status.
Will the latter two retain concurrent and synchronized development
efforts with the Relax and Compact schemas for the foreseeable future?
Will I need to address any XSD and DTD deprecation issues?

I was looking at the source tree a few months ago; I believe
the RNG
version is generated from a set of RNC files that Norm W.
manually
maintains. From comments on the list, I think other schemas
are
generated automatically from either the RNG or RNC files.

I hope that the following text should answer all your
questions:

If not, let me know what is unclear, I will try to improve
document.

I've been using docbook for a while now.
I recenty wrote a new piece using docbook 5.
It took me about 10 minutes extra to get used to using
xml:id instead of id,
links are different
<ulink url="http://docbook.or
g">DocBook site</ulink> instead of ulink.
info is common instead of book | article | section info.
I don't know if there's a stylesheet to transform from 4 to
5,
but I doubt it would take long to do a manual update?
For me it was a no pain move. YMMV.

There is a stylesheet to transform db xml from 4 to 5. I
believe it is
in the schema distribution. Also, the docbook stylesheet
distribution
has the capability to transform db 5 xml to db4 with the
help of a
small customization layer that Bob S. posted a while back.

There is a stylesheet to simplify this task. See
http:/
/www.docbook.org/docs/howto/#convert4to5 and
https://svn.sourceforge.n
et/svnroot/docbook/trunk/docbook/relaxng/tools/db4-upgrade.x

I think it's just getting it the wrong way round?
rng-> XSD = OK, mainly
rng-> DTD = bit lossy
XSD->rng -> OK, mainly
