I haven't had problems with Embperl2 and objects, but I
notice a
significant difference between my config and yours. Instead
of

         SetHandler              perl-script
         PerlHandler             Embperl::Object

I have it inside Directory and FilesMatch directives.

<Directory "/var/www/rg">
     # Embperl handles HTML files
     <FilesMatch ".*\.htm.?$">
        SetHandler  perl-script
        PerlHandler Embperl::Object
        Options     ExecCGI
     </FilesMatch>
    # disable direct serving of .epl files
     <FilesMatch ".*\.epl$">
          Order allow,deny
          Deny From all
    </FilesMatch>
</Directory>

Maybe that will help.

The FilesMatch (or Files) block fixes this Problem, because
it makes sure
mod_index will get the request before Embperl gets it.
