One of my colleagues asked me the other night if I consider
Eventum an
improvement over the previous bugtracker that we're using.
My answer was
yes, but it still wasn't how I would like it.

My main issue, and maybe someone can explain the logic
behind this, is
the fact that when working on an issue, I would like to have
a
chronological and easy to read overview of all things that
have
happened. So no matter if the source of an entry is a phone
call,
internal note or email, the date is the main sorting.
Secondly, emails
often contain quoted text and the answer below. This can
already become
very complex within one email, but more quickly so if these
emails are
displayed in a list. Plus a lot of information is present
double, since
all emails are listed consecutively.

So I would like to put into consideration two suggestions:

1. An issue detail screen that has all entries sorted by
date (but
easily recognizable by color or icon?)

2. Emails are saved immutably, but also create a copy of the
content in
a text field. This text field is what is shown in the
chronological view
and this can easily be altered by the issue owner to make it
more
readable in the list form. As said: the original email is
not changed
and always reachable via this text field entry.

Please tell me why I'm not making sense

Hi Tom:

I'm not going to touch your #2, but for your #1, I think the
dev team could take this on simply by giving the history of
changes screen a "verbose mode" that actually
displays the details of the changes (e.g. the crap that
people type) for each entry. I like the idea of icons to
identify the content update type. Just throwing that out
there.

My boss has asked for this feature too. I looked at it and
put it in
the too-hard (for me) basket.

Each of the entry types has its own database table, and
different
fields, so they would need some massaging to get them to fit
into a
single table.
