Enable 64bit build on MacOSX

Hi,

Starting a new thread because old thread is harder to follow
now.
Attached patch uses sizeof(char*) check which is 8 on all
64bit
platforms and 4 on all 32bit platforms. Regtested on
32/64bit. Should
be good to go.

Please review and apply.
