Hi,
I am installing FC 6 using my DVD R/W. I tried using
the DVD and
also the CD set, but neither of them succeeds because, the
installation packages and the driver disk is not found.
Should I use a
CD ROM to do the installation since the listing of the
location of the
installation packages only has CD ROM shown and no DVD. If
you select
"Local CD ROM", it doesnot recognise the DVD R/W.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Kannan

HI,
I donot have the iso images for installation. What I have
is the
DVD and also the CD set. I searched quite a bit about
installation
from HDD but what I could understand was that, I cannot use
the data I
have in DVD or CD set for that. Is there anything that I
need to take
care of?

Hi,
&nb sp; Sorry for repling your letter so late
In my opinion, the format of the image on the DVD and CD is different
from that of the image which you can istall Fedora derectly from HDD. You can't
just copy all the files on the DVD to the HDD and then install from it.
But there still are some ways to go
1. You can copy all the files from DVD, and use WinISO to pack all of them
in to an ISO, but the boot files may be different. I think it's not a good solution.
2. Just go the the Fedora Web Site or your local FTP/ BT, download the
install image for HDD. But the time you spend to download all the images
is due to your network.
Good luck

I know I'm really late on this response, but have you got
this issue
resolved?
The error almost sounds like you are loading a vmlinuz image
for a
different kernel.
In other words, is the CD and DVD image the exact same? Or
are these
different versions and you are trying to swap during
install.
That or could be that your drive is not supported, in which
case the
long method is to modify isolinux with the needed drivers
(google
"change" "modify" isolinux")
Or you can FTP/HTTP install as already mentioned by the fine
folks
that replied earlier.
Finally, if all else fails, there is a live-cd image out for
zod now.
You could boot up, verify that things work, then plant the
image on
your HDD (instructions included with the image if memory
serves).
I haven't tried the live-cd for FC6 yet (but have for
ubuntu, helix,
phlak, etc).
Best of luck,
