Thread: Installing fink on Leopard

Installing fink on Leopard
country flaguser name
Germany
2008-01-14 05:48:48
Hello,
I want to to install fink on Mac OS 10.5.1 but I don't find
real
instructions for that.

Requirements: Development tools. On Mac OS X, install the
Developer.pkg package from the Developer Tools CD. On
Darwin, the
tools should be present in the default install.

I don't find that Developers.pkg. I have an XcodeTools.mpkg.
Is that
the right one?

Somewhere I've read that one needs to perform a source
install for
Leopard, since there are no binary packages yet. Correct?

Thanks,

Florian

Yes, install Xcode. I'm not sure where the instructions
that you're
quoting are from, but they seemingly date from before 10.3 .
 And, yes,
you must install from source.

It's from http://www.finkproject.org/doc/bundled/install-first

Ok, I tried to install it from source (0.27.3). Untarred it,
and
started the bootstrap process which failed:

Any ideas?

Fink complains several times that my Mac OS version was not
released
when this version of fink was released.

Another question: The INSTALL doc has a chapter: Getting X11
Sorted
Out. Is it not possible to use the included X from Mac OS?

Thanks,

Florian

Why are you using 0.27.3? You need 0.27.7 or later. Check
out

http:
//www.finkproject.org/download/srcdist.php

The INSTALL doc is old. You can, and must, use the included
X11 from
the OS on Leopard.

The problem is that the german version of that page: http://www.finkproject.org/download/srcdist.php?phpLan
g=de
  links to .27.3.
I've downloaded .27.8 now and it seems to work now (still
running)
