Hi List,

I'm running 'fink install absoft-fortran' but getting the
following
errors. I'm running OS X 10.5.2 on an Intel chip with Absoft
10.1
and fink 0.28.1.

...
checking user-defined Fortran-90 compiler
"/Applications/Absoft/bin/f95"...works
checking for nm utility
checking for nm... nm
checking nm flags...
checking for C-equivalent to Fortran routine
"SUB"... sub_
checking for Fortran "byte"... yes
checking for Fortran "integer*2"... yes
checking if Fortran "byte" is C "signed
char"... configure: error:
Could not compile conftest.c
Makefile:4: macros.make: No such file or directory
Makefile:238: warning: overriding commands for target
`/netcdf-.tar.Z'
Makefile:222: warning: ignoring old commands for target
`/netcdf-.tar.Z'
rules.make:118: warning: overriding commands for target `/'
...
And some more errors and then make stops.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

   -k.

Check if there's a config.log file in the absoft-fortran
build
directory
(/sw/src/fink.build/absoft-fortran-<version-revision>)
and
see if there's any additional information--the missing
macros.make
sounds like it could be due to the failure compiling
conftest.c above
to me.

Hi Ken:

I assume you mean netcdf-absoft-fortran. I do not know the
cause of
the error. However, if you down the most recent version of
netcdf3
(netcdf-3.6.2) the following settings should work (I
haven't tried
it with Leopard but would e surprised if it made a
difference):

FC=/Applications/Absoft10/bin/f90
CPPFLAGS=-DpgiFortran
F77=/Applications/Absoft10/bin/f90
FFLAGS=-YEXT_NAMES=LCS -s -YEXT_SFX=_
FCFLAGS=-YEXT_NAMES=LCS -s -YEXT_SFX=_
FCFLAGS_F90=-YEXT_NAMES=LCS -s -YEXT_SFX=_

There is:

======

configure:1922: checking if Fortran "byte" is C
"signed char"
configure:1931: c89 -c -DNDEBUG -DAbsoftProFortran
-I/sw/include -O2 -fno-common conftest.c
c89: illegal option -- f
usage: c89 [-cEgs] [-D name[=value]] [-I directory] ... [-L
directory] ...
        [-o outfile] [-O optlevel] [-U name]... operand ...

======

c89 version is: i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.2.1:

What is best fink way to stop a build partway through,
remove the
flag from configure, and then continue the build? Is this
the
appropriate solution?

Thanks,

   -k.

The fink package is called 'absoft-fortran' but the package
being
built is 'netcdf-absoft-3.5.1-1014'

I'm going to try to fix this in fink as I much prefer to
handle
package management through there rather than manually.

I aploogize, the pacakge is "netcdf-absoft", not
"netcdf-absoft-fortran" or
"absoft-fortran"

Thanks for the other tips.
