I don't think anyone is proposing to remove the Home
button.

There has been at least one proposal in this thread to
remove the Home button 
as a button and have it remain only the first bookmark on
the Bookmarks 
toolbar. I hope nobody "in power" is getting ready
to remove the Home button. 
IIRC, Robert Kaiser (of SeaMonkey) has mentioned that that
button has a 
significant number of both friends and foes.
