Nice! I heard from someone that so much energy is used to produce solar
panels that they don't break even energywise until several years of
use.
Yeah, I've heard that, too. However, that was from a guy who ran the
wind turbine we visited with class in the late 80s. I guess a lot has
changed since then, my guess is that it depends on the manufacturing
process. I know somebody to ask, though...
I'm sure German technology is the best there is though --
Not sure, not even about what is "best". Is it cost per capacity?
Efficiency factor? Being able to use "dirty" silicon (shares of one of
our largest producers crashed the other day, they have more orders
than they can handle but can get only a fraction of the silicon they
need)?
I know we're the largest producer and user (overtook Japan, the US
used to lead but dropped the ball years ago), and that there are a
number of companies.
Waldpolenz sounds like a great undertaking (especially on a former air
base). Maybe you can sell Qatar on the same thing when they decide to
kick the Americans out of Al Udeid.
There's not much you can do with a former air base. The ground usually
is polluted beyond any other use. And this particular air field was
run by the soviets...
