If you want 3d on the web, check out the Unity 3d engine.

With one click it publishes cross platform for the web, .exe
for windows,
and .app (Intel and PPC) on Macintosh. It integrates
seamlessly with
programs like Maya and Cinema 4d. I haven't found anything
that comes close
to that engine. Commercial games have already been built
with it, and they
are coming out with a Wii development kit based around the
Unity engine.
It has full Open GL shader support for things like light
mapping, normal
mapping, all the bells and whistles you would expect
including full screen
effects like light bloom and blurs.
