Thanks... I discovered that at the top of my op_server.cfg
file, was this
message (I am running version .23 - Jul 6 2005):
; NOTE
;
; In this config file, the following entries will be
IGNORED, in
; favour of the values set in /etc/amportal.conf (but do
not
; comment them !):
; manager_user, manager_secret, web_hostname,
security_code, flash_dir
So that means I had to go to /etc/amportal.conf to change
the password from
passw0rd to something else. This is different to what was
specified in the
'asterisk home' dumbme guide (ie it was no use trying to change
the password
in op_server.cfg).
That was the problem!

After changing any values in amportal.conf you must run
/usr/src/freepbx/apply_changes.sh to update all the
configuration files
used by freepbx. You don't have to reboot your server, if
anything just
doing a amportal restart should sufice.
