Does Flexwiki do its own mailing, or does it use IIS to send
mail?  The
Flexwiki server is, obviously, running IIS with the IIS SMTP
server; on
the other end is a Solaris box running sendmail.

To clarify the access question:  Flexwiki's application pool
is running
as the NETWORK SERVICE account; what is the minimum level of
access that
account requires to the wiki content (e.g., the WikiBases
directory and
subdirectories) to be functional?

Ah, you're using IIS SMTP. Good luck with that - I was never
able to
figure that one out. :p 

I think it would be useful to look at whether there's any
network
traffic between the FlexWiki server and the SMTP server. If
they're on
the same machine, you can use something like tcpTrace,
bouncing the mail
to a third machine. If they're on different machines, you
could use
something like Ethereal.

It does its own mailing. We should probably switch it to use
System.Net.Mail
now that we're on 2.0, but for the moment it's all
home-rolled SMTP.

Truthfully, I can never remember. I believe there's a page
on the wiki
somewhere that outlines it, but of course www.flexwiki.com
is down right now
(we're working on it). 

You can always try granting Everyone Full Access temporarily
to eliminate
security as a factor. I suggest you copy the wiki directory
before you do
this, to preserve existing permissions.
