Anyone is welcome to fork, of course: that's one of the
great things about
open source (although it's a mixed blessing [1] [2]).
I'm not sure how the licensing would work in that case - for
example, I
don't believe you can fork a GPL project just to get it
under another
license, so I wouldn't think you could do the same for the
CPL.
But I'm not a lawyer, so let's just leave questions of
licensing aside. Even
then, forking is a pretty serious decision. If nothing else,
it means that
devs like me either have to split their time between two
branches, or pick
one to work on. That reduces the available resources for
everyone's
preferred branch.
My opinion is that we should be looking for ways to get
*more* help, not
less.
