Thread: Synchronising a website gallery with Flickr

Synchronising a website gallery with Flickr

I am currently having my portfolio website redeveloped: www.urban-
exposure.com

I am considering having the developer work in the flickr API into my
website, so that any images and galleries I upload through my website
are automatically synchronised with my flickr account.

The developer should be able to work in fields that will be used in the
flickr gallery, such as tags, description, metadata etc.

Can anyone shed any light on the viability of this, and even if it is
possible?

Are there any considerations I should take into account?

Thanks for your help!

Have you considered working the other direction? Use flickr as your
backend to handle the images, organization, descriptions, etc, and
have your website just be a pretty wrapper that uses the flickr API.

I'm working on a system to do this now. My photography website is
entirely run by the flickr API backend and the front end is based on
php with smarty templates. When I want to add something new to my
site I just go to flickr and add it. Once Collections are exposed to
the API this will become even easier. Right now I'm using machine
tags to do my organization which is a bit clumsy. The flickr API is
much easier to use than anything I could come up with on my own to
manage my own website though that is for sure.

Yes its possible – I’ve done it.

Any image uploaded to my site is automatically synchronized with my flickr account. Likewise, images uploaded/changed in the flickr account are downloaded to my site. It’s not too tough to do – took me about two days of work to iron it out. Sorry I can’t give you a url, because the site site is still under development.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
