Thanks Will. My suggestion is just to use a blue camera icon. It should fit right in beside the house icon. Then use the existing "old" Photos icons for the people topbar (sidebar?) soon.

For any who may not have been around as long as some of us,
let me
remind you that we actually used to have a camera icon. See
the
progression of the photo and news icons at
http://dllh.wordpress.com/2006/05/22/new-flock-buttons/ and, if you're
bored, read my brief dissertation at
http://dllh.wordpress.com/2006/05
/21/argument-for-some-button-changes-in-flock/
explaining why I too am on the camera icon bandwagon.

Thanks Daryl..I knew we had been down this path before. I'm still not sure who would get confused thinking that the camera icon would somehow interact with their camera... but if usability tests show it's the case...well we have to look elsewhere (I thought I remember someone talking about tests that showed confusion)

Anyway, here's my suggestion for the icon:

A polaroid image (you know, thicker border on the bottom) with a image almost everyone is familiar with ... the Mona Lisa. Well not the exact image, more of an outline. If I had any graphical talent I would mock it up.

The polaroid "thick bottom border" is almost universal (pretty sure It's even an option in my gallery photo site). I'm not sure I am sold on the Mona Lisa as the outline, but we need something instantly recognizable as a picture/photo and the Mona Lisa came to mind immediately. Hey maybe The Scream could work

Thanks

In the new beta of Gaim, theres an icon like the polaroid
photograph, i
think it's unmistakable.
