Removing the ma.gnolia folk b/c I feel like I'm spamming
them at this point.
I agree that it'd be nice to find a solution for this sort
of thing. I
doubt it's simple, though, or surely we would have fixed it.
Seems to me
that we had it working at one point (with quotation marks),
actually,
and it may be that making it work nicely across services
when we added
Ma.gnolia made us back out the change. A developer would
need to get
involved in the conversation to shed more light on it.
I sure didn't mean to downplay the importance of features
like this, but
I thought it was overkill to huff and puff and make a
blanket statement
about an unfinished or unshippable product without making
any allowances
for all the areas we have vastly vastly improved. I've been
using Flock
as my primary browser for two years come December. When we
added polish
to the photo bar, I bought a Flickr pro account and started
using
Flickr more b/c the upload experience was so much better for
me as a
Linux user than it was in any alternatives. Now that I've
been using our
1.0 builds for a couple of weeks, I find myself using other
services
more frequently. I share things on Facebook, I notice photos
my
coworkers post on Facebook, I change my status, I signed up
for a
Twitter account. Never before has the whole experience been
smoother for
me. When I'm immersed in such a set of advances and then
Chris Messina
dismisses the product because it doesn't fit his precise
need in one
little area that to probably 90% of our target is borderline
arcane
anyway, well, naturally I bristle a little, however valid
the feedback
at its core is (and it is).

I think we've improved this in 1.0 with the introduction of
better
webdetective sniffing and discoverability features. That
said, it's been
a while since I tried the experience in 0.9, so I may be
working from
bad memory. I guess the idea is that for savvy users like
you, it makes
sense to go looking for UI to add accounts, but we want to
tag along
with people as they go through their normal routines and let
the product
show them how it can enhance the experience. So you log into
Facebook
and we show you all your friends right there in the browser
without
making you figure out that you've got to create an account
association.
It could be that we could improve the story, though. I think
at present,
you get an orange notification at the top of your browser
that prompts
you to remember the account. It's easy to miss this, I
think, or to
ignore it because it resembles some sort of error that's
irrelevant if
the page seems to have loaded. On the other hand, popups
would be too
intrusive for my taste, so I can't think of a much better
alternative.
Thanks for continuing to engage,
