Maximal font-size khtml can display?

Hello,

while I was building some kind of "status displaying
website" for a
large screen, I came around some kind f limitation (I think)
of khtml.

Is seems it can not show any fonts bigger than ~ 260px.

Take a look at the attached testcase, and try to increase
the font-size
above 260px. Here, on 3.5.6/feisty, the fontsize does not
increase
anymore. Opera and Firefox seem not to have this limitation,
they can
show even font-sizes of 1000px.

Is this a bug or a feature?

regards,
yves

btw, I just built webkit-qt from svn, and it does not have
this
limitation in font-size.

"Feature". This seems to be a remnant from the
times when X11 did the font
handling which couldn't cope with glyphs larger than 255px
IIRC. With
freetype, this feature should be obsoleted eventually.

limit the font sizes to 0..255px to avoid crashing X on some
webpages
