Dear Mailinglist,
I'm asking myself if it is possible to sync one pilot with
multiple pcs
(that are not connected). As it is hard to find answers at
google, could
you please give me experiences or further websites.
Thanks,
Ralf Dragon

I'll got for a qualified "yes" to this question.
You will have slow syncs when
switching PCs since all the data needs to be downloaded from
the Palm, but it
ought to work. Some things will naturally be weird or
undetectable: I can
imagine situations where data isn't removed when it should
be because the
Pilot can't tell that something was deleted on a different
machine from the
one it's syncing against now.
Keep extra backups of everything if you're going to try
this.

The answer is yes you can, but you may not want to.
I use Suse 10.1, and Kpilot to sync my Palm Tungsten E on my
office desktop,
my laptop, and my home desktop.
Be careful what you set your preferences to in the Kpilot
setup so you don't
end up duplicating entries everywhere. My solution was to
have all my
information (addressbook, email, notes, calendar, etc
together on the laptop.
Then I synced to a blank Palm. Then I used that Palm to sync
to the other two
computers. I still screw up occasionally and end up with
duplicate events or
email addresses.
Bob.

If you see anything that is kpilot's fault, PLEASE report it
so we can get it
fixed! =

Hi Ralf,
I do exactly this myself with kpilot. And I can tell you
that it works very,
very well. The only missing functionality that I have right
now is our
memofile conduit doesn't do a full sync yet, so while my
palm has all of my
memos, they don't get propagated correctly to my PCs
(whichever one I didn't
edit the note on doesn't have the latest copy, etc.).
Please make sure you're using the latest kpilot code (kde
3.5.6 has the latest
released kpilot code), and please report back with any and
all problem! =
Good luck!!
Oh, yeah, and seriously, heed Adriaan's warnings about
making frequent,
regular backups, just in case.

Regardless of the sync software, when syncing multiple
databases, you have to
follow the rule of "one host many clients". That
is if you have handheld
(h), computer 1 (c1), computer 2 (c2), and computer 3 (c3),
you can
sync h with c1, c2 and c3, but in that scenario, never
thereafter c1 with c2.
Here h is the host and c1, c2 and c4 are the clients.
or you could
sync c2 with h, c1 and c3, but in that scenario, never h
with c1 or c3, Here,
c2 is the host.
To do otherwise is to invite data corruption.
