Dear List.

And again one of these Kpilot syncing Treo 650 mails.

Since some days I am expierencing strange behaviour during
sync. One day
syncing won´t work at all, the other day, everything works
well,
except for, the display of my Treo 650 stays dark/unlit. But
as soon as I
unplug the sync-USB-cable, it lights up. No big deal, but I
still wonder
why.

So I am thinking of a HARD RESET. Anybody done that to
his/her Treo? What
about syncing all data, installed programms and
systemsettings back to
the Treo. Does it work?

Thanks for any comment.
Cheers and have a happy easter
Marcel

Hi Marcel! = I use a
Treo 650 every day with kpilot, so there's hope!!

That sounds like hardware problems?? It stays dark?

Yes, I've done it before. If you have an SD card in your
treo, I'd suggest
getting InnerBackup and using that immediately to backup
your treo onto the
sd card. Also, you can tell kpilot to do a backup and it
will put all of
your databases in
~/.kde/share/apps/kpilot/DBBackup/<username>/. Quite
honestly, if I'm having to do a hard reset though, I'll quit
kpilot and use
pilot-xfer -p <portname> -b <directory> and do a
full backup that way just to
be sure I have as little moving parts as possible. Then
I'll do a hard reset
and when it's done, I'll do a pilot-xfer -i
<directory>/{list of databases
that I want to backup}. I'd recommend not re-installing
every database that
you had on there, but rather restore the ones you know you
need (AddressDB,
MemoDB, ToDoDB, DatebookDB, etc.).

Good luck!!

Yes, it does stay dark during sync. But as soon as I unplug
the display
lights up. I just try it...
... strange.
I just did 5 syncs in a row and everything worked fine. Sync
starts,
display lit up. So , I guess I will not hard reset a thsi
time.

Yes, I have a SD Card. By InnerBackup you mean like copying
everything
from the Treos RAM to SD Card with the help of a File
Brower? I am using
GentleMan for instance.

Sounds reasonable to me. But honestly, I have around 140
files to backup
and I hardly know which one contains something of
importance.

Thanks
Marcel

InnerBackup is a free backup program I found on the 'net.
Basically, I'm
saying just make sure you have a good backup before you
start playing with
your data. =
