See man mixer, but i think that :

[beniwww ~]$ mixer mic 0:0
Setting the mixer mic from 100:100 to 0:0.
[beniwww ~]$

Here my mixer keeps those settings after a reboot.

Hope this helps,

Beni.

I wonder how you load your sound card drivers? If
they are not compiled into your kernel, you have
to load them from /boot/loader.conf or else when
rc script restores mixer values, it won't find
mixer at all.

In recent versions of FreeBSD, it should happen
automatically (see
/etc/rc.d/mixer). If you are still on an earlier version,
you can
always create your own script to set the values however you
like.
