Is it possible to have a wifi card in hostap mode NOT to
broadcast its
ssid (like most routers can)?
I have one in one of my hosts and this is not secure (as I
understand).
Mimimal security would be not to broadcast and have wep on.

man ifconfig:

|hidessid
| When operating as an access point, do not broadcast
the SSID in
| beacon frames or respond to probe request frames
unless they are
| directed to the ap (i.e., they include the ap's
SSID). By
| default, the SSID is included in beacon frames and
undirected
| probe request frames are answered. To re-enable the
broadcast of
| the SSID etc., use -hidessid.
