The idea was to enable both recording and viewing at the
same time when
more than one tuner is installed. But of course then need
use the same
stream type, such as two composite or two DVB tuners.

Can't quite remember, 1.6 I think.

Better only to have one as it may allow to change the
channel when
recording, not really something that you want to do.
