Bash completion Issue?

It seems to be a little bit more subtle than I first
thought.

There is a separate 'git-completion' package which is not
maintained by the 
git maintainer (Gerrit Pape) and which has not been updated
since August. Its 
this package that contains the scripts.

I'll file a bug report against it.
