Correction: I referenced blox-gtk when I should have
referenced blox-tk .... My apologies for any confusion I
caused.

The following modification to BloxBasic.st fixed it for me:
whitebearded1 ubuntu:~/src/smalltalk/blox-tk$ diff
BloxBasic.st.orig BloxBasic.st
995,996c995,996
< ifTrue: 'lucida 13'
< ifFalse: 'helvetica 10'
---
> ifTrue: [^'lucida 13']
> ifFalse: [^'Helvetica 10']
and in BloxWidgets.st I made the following change (which I'm
not certain was necessary)
all occurences of 'self class defaultFont' were replaced
with: 'Blox defaultFont' (I dont have the original file
anymore to produce a diff.)
Kind Regards,
Brad Watson
