That's I again. I had have dig amarok sources and have
discovered, that ruby 
really isn't so need, as think amarok's configure  It need:

1. for some scripts (lyrics_astraweb, lyrics_lyrc,
score_default, 
score_impulsive)
2. for DAAP share music server. But you cat switch off it
with --without-daap

I think, ruby should be switchable. Really, I don't remember
any time. when I 
had use 'scores'. I have created patch for FreeBSD port, but
this patch is 
dirty. Really, parameter --with(out)-ruby is need

There is only a tiny chance that a Amarok developer will be
reading this here.

There is an Amarok mailing list as well, and the developers
are
definitely found there.
