What do you think is happening with Konqueror?

Hello all,

I've stumbled upon a wierd thing.
This request:
kfmclient download
"http://webservices.amazon.co.uk/onca/xml?Service=AWSEComm
erceService&AWSAccessKeyId=13V7YYPJ52WP1DNSXTR2&Oper
ation=ListLookup&ListType=WishList&ListId=3UR8NGW6RW
FTT&MerchantId=Amazon&ResponseGroup=ListInfo"

is an amazon request through its rest API and returns an XML
with an error.
The exact same request with wget or firefox return an XML
with a good
result. So, basically either the Amazon API is returning an
incorrect
result because it is konqueror asking for it or konqueror is
somehow
mixing things and requesting the wrong stuff given the
correct URL.

Any ideas would be appreaciated.

Regards,

Hi,

I am not 100% sure, but I think there were some posts
mentioning issues with
Konqueror and Amazon. Try searching through the archives of
this and the
kde-linux lists.

I tried both "download" and "copy" as
commands for kfmclient and both returned
a file like the attached one.

Is this the correct response or the error response you are
getting as well?

If you think this could be that Konqueror could be
on a kind of "black list"
you can try to ask Konqueror not to identify itself:
you go in the configuration menu, then in
"identification of
the browser" (translated, the translation may be
wrong...)
then uncheck "Konqueror send its identification".
If you can know what is the exact identification sent by
Konqueror,
then you can also say to "wget" to use this for
its identification
insted of saying its name is wget : man wget
--user-agent=agent-string
Identify as agent-string to the HTTP server.
...
However, some sites have been known to impose the policy of
tailoring
the output
according to the "User-Agent"-supplied
information. While this is not
such a bad idea
in theory, it has been abused by servers denying information
to clients
other than
(historically) Netscape or, more frequently
...

Well, you're getting the right answer. I keep getting the
wrong one
with a lot of <error> tags. Do you have any specific
version and
identification configuration you might want to share?

Konqueror standard user agent string

kevinartemis ~ % kde-config --version
Qt: 3.3.7
KDE: 3.5.5

Packages are those from Debian/Unstable

No proxy

I'd say anything HTTP related is pretty much default

Cheers,
Kevin
