LAM: lam newbie question
user name
2006-08-01 14:31:21
Dear list,

I just registered to this list. I am a lam newbie (migrating
from
mpich) and I read the lam-FAQ first, before posting here.

For a multi-cpu environement how do I run separate lam jobs
on the
same computers?

For example I want to run 4 jobs on 4 4-cpu's nodes in this
maner:
job1 on cpu1/node1+cpu1/node2+cpu1/node3+cpu1/node4
job2 on cpu2/node1+cpu2/node2+cpu2/node3+cpu2/node4
job3 on cpu3/node1+cpu3/node2+cpu3/node3+cpu3/node4
job4 on cpu4/node1+cpu4/node2+cpu4/node3+cpu4/node4
rather than in this maner:
job1 on cpu1-4/node1
job2 on cpu1-4/node2
job3 on cpu1-4/node3
job4 on cpu1-4/node4

When I submit job2 the lamboot will simply kill job1, then
job3 will
kill job2, etc. What do I have to read to make this work?

Best regards,
        Ionel

You can issue multiple mpirun's simultaneously to do what
you want. For
example:

Lamboot [your_hostfile]
mpirun N -np 4 a.out &
mpirun N -np 4 b.out &
mpirun N -np 4 c.out &
mpirun N -np 4 d.out &

The "N" means that it will launch one process
per node.

Note that "lamclean" will kill all processes in
the entire universe. Hence,
running lamclean will kill all 16 processes.
