Dear all:
I have problems with installing LAM.
First of all, let me know how to remove LAM/MPI. I tried to
install
many times in different ways (different path), so many files
were
scattered over the system. I want to make clean install.
Usually, I
used the default path /usr/local. But, there are already
other files
irrelevant with LAM/MPI.
The second question is concerning with strategy of system
configuration.
With the default path, I succeeded to install and it works
well as
far as I access it within the local node. Next issue is to
extend
this system over all the other nodes, which are connected by
NFS. Of
course, I understand importance of bypassing mechanism for
passwords;
I use RSA authentication. Our system is configured such a
way that
only user directories are mounted by NFS. The default path
/usr/local
is not mounted in NFS. Hence, I think this is reason, it
does not
make response.
So, my question is whether I should install LAM/MPI in the
user
directory which can be access from all the users. If this is
not the
case, should I configure the system from beginning in a way
that the
directory /usr/local is mounted by NFS?
Thanks advance,

Hi Koun,
first, you might want to use OpenMPI instead of Lam.
Are you installing from tar files are an RPM? From the
tar I believe you can use something like prefix=/NFS_disk/lam-7.x.x

But, OpenMPI is too new, and I am disappointed to know that
even
manual is lack at present time. For beginners it is too hard
without
manuals.

I used lam-7.1.4.tar.gz.
Yeah, I can manage the path.
My concern is wether the other users can access even if the
installed
directory is set to be in my home directory.
My current system was already dirty, because of many
attempts of
installation, and hence it was difficult to see whether my
installation was wrong or other problems.

Fair enough, but did you look at LAM's extensive
installation manual?
There are detailed instructions in there about how to
install and
uninstall LAM. The FAQ also describes several common
installation
scenarios.
Do you have questions that are not answered by the install /
user
guides and/or the FAQ?
Be aware that LAM is not under active development any more;
all
further effort is going into Open MPI. The FAQ and man
pages are
currently the best resource for using Open MPI; using Open
MPI is
actually quite similar to LAM because at least some of the
core Open
MPI team came from LAM. The big difference is that there is
no
lamboot/lamhalt command in Open MPI.
