Hey,

In your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory, create a
route file or add to one that is already there.

Example
route-eth1
'destination' via 'gateway ip'

However it looks like you want to add a default gateway ?
That should be taken care of by your
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth# file.

Hi,

I have added the following route on a RHEL AS4 server. How
do I make this
route a permanent one. In other words, how do I add a route
that persists
after reboot.

route add -net 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 gw 172.22.40.1 dev
eth0

Thanks & Regards,

Hi,

Find below the contents of
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

[rootbgpcamd1 network-scripts]# pwd
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
[rootbgpcamd1 network-scripts]# more ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=172.22.40.50
NETMASK=255.255.254.0
GATEWAY=172.22.40.1
[rootbgpcamd1 network-scripts]#
