This weekend I made a RPM of the newer Firefox 1.5.0.1 code,
using the
'testing' RPM Matthias made for 1.5 -- the only changes
were to remove a
patch included upstream and the new tarball of code.
Everything else was
left the same, it built without errors.

Been using it on two different machines for awhile now and
it appears
just fine. Thought some other folks might be interested:

ftp://ftp.falsehope.com/home/tengel/fedora/4/te/i386/RPMS/fi
refox-1.5.0.1-1.te.i386.rpm

Sorry, no x86_64 - the SRPM is available if you want to
rebuilt it on
your 64bit machine:

ftp://ftp.falsehope.com/home/tengel/SRPMS/firefox-1.5.0.1-1.
te.src.rpm

If anyone has done all the work to get a Thunderbird 1.5 RPM
built for
FC4, I'm all ears. ;)

I've got one, but I think I did have to pull in a few
minor odds'n'sods
from elsewhere to upgrade stuff like cairo.

I'll put the [S]RPM files somewhere in a bit and repost.

   OK:

http://repos.fnxweb.com/fedora/
core/4/i386/RPMS.fnx/thunderbird-1.5-1fnx.i386.rpm
http://repos.fnxweb.com/fedora/
core/4/i386/SRPMS.fnx/thunderbird-1.5-1fnx.src.rpm

[just using this as storage, I've not linked thunderbird
into my repo]

Any missing deps. (e.g., new cairo), try nrpms which is
where I got mine.
Note, I haven't added nrpms as a full-on repo for my
systems as I don't want
to upgrade my entire GNOME subsystem, I just cherry-picked
the required RPMs.

So here's the rub - a lot of folks (like me, heh) may not
want to
upgrade all sorts of other things like cairo; Matthias did
this for the
Firefox backport:

* Fri Dec  2 2005 Matthias Saou <http://freshrpms.net/> 1.5-0.fc4
- Branch for FC-4 :
  - Change nspr references to mozilla-nspr >= 1.7.
  - Remove cairo dependencies.
  - Edit firefox-mozconfig : Remove cairo here too, and
pango as it
requires cairo in turn.

Given that Tbird is pretty much the same codebase, my guess
is that the
same thing can be done. Maybe if I get a moment here I'll
take your SRPM
as a baseline and see about backpedaling like Matthias did.
It's an idea
at least.

thanks!

Did you look at the CentOS thunderbird package, then? These
are exactly the
same issues as on CentOS4/FC3.

I mean, it's your time, not mine, but....

I wasn't able to actually find it (it's not in any of the
testing/dev/addon repos I could find), but I did find a good
thread on
the list just now:

Specifically post #4 for Lenard, where he pulls together
several
people's work. Houston, we have a plan... *rolls up
sleeves*

Oh, hey, sorry about being snooty. Yes, the CentOS 4 package
we have here is
actually from someone on the mailing list too, now that I
look at it more
closely.

I finally found it as well, I'm also downloading that srpm
to compare
and contrast. It can't hurt to have a lot of sources --
I'm going to
start with the official rawhide SRPM and edit backwards.
