videolan-client and wxGTK/wxGTK-common dependency problem

Hi,

I have installed videloan-client and wxGTK from the
freshrpms
repository, and now when I try and install audacity from
fedora-extras, the wxGTK package conflicts with wxGTK-common
from
extras, which is required by audacity. Is it possible to
rename your
packacge to wxGTK-common, or even better, allow
videolan-client to
pull in wxGTK-common from extras (i.e. change a Requires:
wxGTK to
Requires wxGTK-common) - I think that would fix it, if I
understand
the problem correctly.

[side note: I'm installing audacity from extras, since it
has vanished
from rpmforge. If the audacity package was to reappear on
rpmforge,
built against the wxGTK package from freshrpms, that would
also solve
the problem]

Or put more succinctly: the freshrpms wxGTK package
conflicts with the
fedora-extras wxGTK-common package.

This is kind of a mess. Which version of Fedora Core are you
currently
using? I'm going to update wxGTK in FC4 once version 2.6.3
comes out, and at
that point, there won't be a wxGTK-common package in Extras
either. (Just
wxGTK, wxGTK-gl, and wxGTK-devel.) But also, the audacity
package will need
to be updated to 1.30b. (There will be a compat-wxGTK
package too which will
proved the old version of the library required by audacity
1.2.x for
transition.)

But further, the package shouldn't really need to
explicitly require
wx-anything, should it? It should pick up the library dep
automatically.

Yes - on further delving into the issue, it seems that the
FE audacity
rpm requires version 2.4 of wxGTK and wxGTK-common which are
shipped
by FE (i.e. you  ), whereas
freshrpms ships version 2.6, which is
required by videolan-client. I haven't yet worked out why
the FE
audacity doesn't allow wxGTK >= 2.4, perhaps that would
solve the
issue.

Yes - it's doing that - it seems that the autogenerated
deps for the
FE audacity are requiring wxGTK = 2.4 and wxGTK-common =
2.4, and not
wxGTK(-common)>=2.4.

Oh how I wish freshrpms/rpmforge still shipped audacity,
built against
wxGTK 2.6

Yeah, technically me, but I haven't actually touched the
2.4 versions.

Stuff linked against wxGTK 2.4 needs to be recompiled to
work with 2.6. And
to make matters more fun, audacity 1.2.x doesn't even build
against 2.6 even
if the "2.4-compatibility" flags are turned on
in wxGTK.

I think getting the FE audacity updated is the solution, but
that's not my
package....
