Hi, Matthias,

after an upgrade of nvidia driver
(nvidia-x11-drv-1.0.9762-2.fc7.i386.rpm
for Fedora 7) today I get warnings at boot time:

"Can't create device note nvidia X: Device already
exists."

These are warnings of udev... I can't access your latest
specfile
of nvidia-x11-drv-1.0.9762-2.fc7 currently... May be the
device notes
are still defined within?

A little more precise...

...I meant with "still defined within":
"still defined within the file
list".

As I understand it... That's why udev complains:
"Device already exists."
while creating the device notes.

Maybe it's because devices are both in /etc/udev/devices and /etc/udev/makedev.d/

$ rpmquery -l nvidia-x11-drv | grep udev
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia0
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia1
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia2
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia3
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia4
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia5
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia6
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia7
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia8
/etc/udev/devices/nvidia9
/etc/udev/devices/nvidiactl
/etc/udev/makedev.d/60-nvidia.nodes

I, TOO, AM GETTING THESE WARNINGS AT BOOT TIME. THEN THE
NVIDIA DRIVER SEEMS
TO START OK - (I SEE THE NVIDIA SPLASH SCREEN BRIEFLY AS X
BOOTS UP, AND MY
GLXGEARS PERFORMANCE GOES WAY UP). I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE
SUGGESTION MADE IN
THIS THREAD BY "????? ??????" <TASOSCHRGMAIL.COM>

Contrary to my previous post, my message reads "Cannot
stat nvidia 0:
Permission denied" - there are one of these for each
nvidia device 0-9

nVidia driver does seem to be working, BUT, I if I open the
"NVIDIA X Server
Settings" GUI and click on the "Open GL/GLX
Information" selection, my
desktop immediately goes black and I return to a login
screen. On the opening
screen of that GUI it shows "NVIDIA Driver Version:
1.0-9762"

Yeah, it's trying to create them twice. I've removed the
nodes from the
package's %files and tested the package : It still works for
me. I
thought udev needed both, as I now wonder where it's getting
the minor
numbers from... maybe from the nvidia module itself? Things
seem to be
improving too fast for me

What happened to the -3 rpms? I updated from home and they
were there
but now they are gone.

Thanks,

Hmmm, they hadn't been added to the web interface (fixed,
now), but they
shouldn't have gone anywhere :-/
