I added some flags to package.use.mask it should work better
now.
You need the fafhrd overlay tho:

  emerge -va layman
  layman -f -k -a fafhrd-branch


I emerged it with:

  USE="aac alsa dts dvd dvdread encode gif iconv ipv6
jpeg mad -mmx 
-mmxext opengl png rtc speex -sse -sse2 tga theora unicode
vorbis x264 
xvid" emerge -vat mplayer
