Advice to maximizeSoftware Raid 1 speed.

I am rebuilding my raid partition using mdadm that /home
mounts to.  It was a 3 disk raid 5 but I
was having problems keeping it synced during heavy writes.

Basically I want a Raid 1 partition w/ 1 hot spare. each
drive is 300GB

Does anyone have advice on the parameter I should use to
achieve maximum reliablity and speed?
