A simple animation tutorial or help ?

Hi;

I want to create a simple animation. That is, a picture with
changing
colours to show what happens with the current on a line, if
a particular
switch is closed. The schematic is fairly simple.

Inkscape help suggests it would be better to create it in
Gimp. For now
a .gif file will do, but later I might want it in .svg.

I am by no means proficient in Gimp, but I have learnt the
basics. I
have never done animation before. Gimp animation help seems
to assume a
higher level of knowledge than I have.

Can someone recommend a 'getting started' site, tutorial or
help page
for animation? Or perhaps a better choice of programs.

I am using Gimp 2.2.17 on Fedora 7.

I may have missed the reply on your request for a simple
animation
tutorial. Can you point me in that direction as well?
