With the current version, its seems that you have two even three choices:
1) the traditional GIMP way with several windows on the screen you can
arrange the way which is the more practical for you,
2) the traditional windows way: when you open an "image", you find the menu
bar at the top, so you can enlarge your image to full screen and access the
different menus...
3) with a right click on an image, you can access to all functions.
So, It is not exactly the Photoshop approach ... and, i am not going to
start arguing to state which method is the best. Personally, i found and
still find combination 1 and 3 very practical and particularly when i am
working on several images at a time.
