Single-color transparency works identically in GIF and PNG.
What Internet
Exploder doesn't support is alpha transparency - look at
this page for
example: <http://gim
p-win.sourceforge.net/alpha/> (with a real browser,
eg.
Opera or Firefox) - first picture is 24bit color PNG with
8bit alpha
channel, 2nd picture is 256 color PNG with alpha
transparency, and 3rd
picture is 8bit PNG with 1bit transparency. GIF only
supports transparency
like in the last image.
