Hi all

This is my first post to the group.

I have a logo image of my company. I want to put this image onto
another background image. Right now my logo is too solid and disturbs
the background image. I want my logo to have a glass like effect
(distorting the background image) with a light shadow so that though the
background image is visible, so too is my logo.

This, in Photoshop was done by Drop Shadow and Screen/Soft Light style.

What is the equiv. in GIMP. I tried a lot of effects but was not
satisfied with my work.

Please advise.

I don't think we've got a built-in effect for this, but I copy my
text/logo onto another layer, turn it black if it isn't already, move
down and over a little bit and apply a gaussan blur. Flatten when
done.
