setting image to print centered on paper

is there a file that i can edit that will allow me to set an image to print
in the center of the paper. at present, the image prints in the top corner
of the paper, and this is undesirable.

The printing support in GIMP, especially on Windows, is not very
full-featured. I advice you print your images from some other
application that lets you specify more options.

I'm on a linux box as well as windows. I thought there might be a file
or setting I could edit or set. On Windows I usually print from Photoshop.
