Also, two simple drag&drop operations are possible:
I - Image to image
1. Open one image in GIMP
2. From the Windows Explorer drag your second image and drop it on the
already open image in GIMP (*not* on the main GIMP window)
II - Layer to image
1. Open the two images in GIMP
2. Pop up the Layers window
3. Drag the background layer (from the Layers window) and drop it to
the second image window
