Craig,

Tor is the person in charge of this list. He can
also be a perfect idiot, lose all sense of
proportion and civil behavior, and do so on a
regular basis. You are not even in the first two
dozen of newly arrived correspondents here not
versed in how to ask questions about GIMP that he
has rudely blown off on that basis.

Ignore him. There are _lots_ of helpful people here,
even Tor when his love of mistreating newly arrived
correspondents hasn't sucked away his sanity for a
while.

If you cannot abide dealing with him at all, there
is also a Usenet newsgroup dedicated to The GIMP,
though not, as this list is, specifically to the
MS-Windows version. Many of the helpful folks here
are equally helpful there.

So people fly off the handle every once in a while...get over it;
it's a harsh GIMP world out there. Maybe they were having a bad
day. Think of it as tough love.

Then again, I haven't really contributed to the list in a loooong
time, so just ignore me.

Tor is the person responsible for the windows port, without him it would
likely not exist at all.

... because answering the millionth question as politely as the first is a
very difficult task. From your point of view you are a beginner
struggling to get started and it is difficult, but good questions get
better answers.

Tor answers a great many questions politely. I have found Tor to be very
helpful on many occasions over the years but everyone has off-days. The
question asked was particularly unclear difficult to understand. The GNU
Image Manipulation Program is also often quite difficult to understand.
If a user is a beginner and is having difficulty asking clear questions
then they are also likely to have even more difficulty using the software,
a warning suggesting other software is not entirely inappropriate.

Also keep in mind that not everyone on this list has English as their
native language. This makes it harder to ask clear questions, and even
harder to understand questions which are not very clear.

Best of luck
