Hi Carl,

I think the issue you have is perhaps that you think that the
transparent area will become the logo. "Alpha" is the opacity, so what
becomes the logo is the opaque part, while the transparent part remains
transparent. Try the follwoing:
1- create a new image (RGB), let's say 640x480 or 800x600.
2- Layers->;Transparency->Add alpha channel
3- select the paintbrush tool, and pick a big circular brush (e.g.
circle 19)
4- write a big text (e.g. "foo") on the image (text in black, background
in white).
5- use the "Select by color"; tool to select all of the background, and
cut it. The black text should be visible on top of the checkerboard.
6- apply the "alpha to logo" script (e.g. alien glow)
7- look in the layer list: there is background layer that you can
remove, and then the effect is on a transparent background (the
"particle trace"; effect might be buggy, at least for me, the shadow
layer is not what I expect).

I hope this helps to understand the use of "alpha to logo".

Best regards,

Olivier
