| Is is possible to delete ALL messages
w/o closing account? |

i have been using my gmail account to receive copies of
business emails
as a temporary solution for receiving email on my windows
mobile device
-- (only blackberry devices are supported by my employer).
long story short -- gmail archived all 7,000 of the emails i
received
in the past 6 months, i now have a more secure solution to
mobile
email, and i want to delete everything from gmail -- but
would like to
keep the account as a personal address.
Is there any way of deleting the messages without going
through all 70
pages?
I'm guessing the answer is no, but it's so frustrating.
thanks in advance

Hey man, there is a way to do it but not all gmail accounts have it. I've got a link iun my trash can that says "Delete all Trash" that lets me get rid of everything in the label all at once. I have one in my spam as well. I don't know how many people have it but it is kind of cool. If I knew how to do a screenshot I would do one and send it to the group so they could see it.

There is no official way to do it. I heard of a Greasemonkey
script to
do it, but I don't recall what it was called.

That's probably a Greasemonkey script. That's not part of
Gmail.

Mines not a greasemonkey script becasue I use it in IE and not in firefox although when I log into firefox it is there too. I tried to do the screenshot but it didn't do anything when I hit the shift and print button. I'm going to try some other ways to see if I can show you all that I have it.

I still couldn't figure out how to do it....I'm no good with some of these shortcut keys but I did download a program that does screen captures for me. Only catch is that it did them as .bmp files and they were to big to send through email because if it's more than 1MB Google groups turns it away.
But I uploaded them to my Google page so here they are
'Apply filter to' when creating a new filter
'Empty trash folder'
"Empty spam folder'
Hope this helps you guys

Keith--
Thanks for posting those bmps. Since I almost never use
Gmail's web
interface, apologies if I'm overlooking something obvious,
but in order
to use the "delete all spam" or "empty all
trash" buttons, all of my
emails must already be in the spam or trash folders. So I
would then
need to move all of my archived mail using a filter -- but
it appears
that Gmail doesn't let you apply a filter to existing
messages -- only
to new mail.
So to make this work I need to apply a filter to existing
messages.
Your screenshot has an option that I don't have,
"apply to the #
conversations below" -- but if filters can only be
applied to new
messages and "messages displayed "below"
won't that hit the same 100
message per screen
limitation that prevents us from just deleting the messages
from the
archive directly?
The empty trash and empty spam buttons are great, but I'm
not sure if
they help unless I can get the messages into those
folders....
Maybe I'm missing something?

Keith not sure if you have got sorted yet but first the Prt Screen key copies you current screen to the clipboard. You then past it to Word or an Email pad and use it that way. Because it pastes at full size you will need to resize it with it Handles like a picture.
As to deletions. Gmail always says it empties trash automatically but most find it does not. You can set your option to see 100 messages per page and delete from any of your folders by Select All/Delete. This applies to both All Mail and Trash.
